“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:26 ESV

This is one of my favorite pictures of all time. It was taken by my daughter in our church sanctuary about four years ago. I love how it draws one’s focus to the center and slightly upward.

For me, it is a reminder of what is important: A life centered on Him, and our common call to the upward way of serving the Kingdom of God in the here and now.

I would love to here what you see, feel, experience, or hear when you reflect on this picture.

  1. My initial thought was perspective. I couldn’t help but see the music stands and equipment in the background. Is that my focus? The mechanisms of the church and it’s services? More of a self critique, really. Bruce Lee once said, “It is like a finger pointing a way to the moon, don’t concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory!”

    1. If you think about it, nothing is in focus except the table. The pulpit, lectern, pews, music stands, etc. are all blurred compared to the table. All are useful for worship of him, but the table was initiated by him. Maybe it is symbolic of him calling us to usefulness!

  2. My first thought was the blurr of the picture and the pews. It made me think that the pews where we sit are out of focus, that we are secondary to the Table which is the real focus….. Jesus. We are so insignificant to the SON. Also the black and white of the picture, that only the color comes in when we truly focus on the LORD!

    1. Nice insight on the pews! But I don’t think we are “insignificant to the SON.” Did you mean we are insignificant as compared to the SON? My view is that his actions show us how significant we are to him, and now we have access to the Holy of Holies!
