2019.06.11 – Don’t Panic!

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? …But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matthew 6:27,33

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has these words inscribed on its cover;

“Don’t Panic.”

Why? Because our humanoid instincts kick into flight or fight mode whenever we are faced with anxious circumstances (perceived or real).

“Don’t Panic” has been the mantra with my staff since arriving seven years ago. I even have these words on the cover of my cell phone, so when something comes up and anxiousness is in the air, I take out my phone and show it to the panicking humanoid(s). Sometimes that panicking humanoid me!

Yet this wonderfully sound advice is not an invention of the 1970s. It actually reverberates down through the ages from our “42.” Our  GUIDE to life, the universe and everything teaches us in the Sermon on the Mount not to be anxious, but rather trust in Him. In other words… “Don’t Panic.” He has us covered.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy also gives practical advice about always carrying a towel as it may be a weary hitchhiker’s “most massively useful thing.” To bad Jesus didn’t have anything to say about towels…. Oh, I guess he did!

Jesus ,..rose from the supper table. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:3-5 esv
