The Flying Scotsman strikes again!
So I have been pondering this one over and over. Sometimes I laugh and sometimes I want to cry because it is prophetic; in the sense that it speaks truth into our present.
I welcome your thoughts; but first some quotes:
“People who wish to be offended will always find some occasion for taking offense.”
John Wesley
Good sense makes one slow to anger,
and it is his glory to overlook an offense.Proverbs 19:11
People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought they avoid.
Soren Kierkegaard
Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all offenses.Proverbs 10:12
Like all of life’s important coping skills, the ability to forgive and the capacity to let go of resentments most likely take root very early in our lives.
Fred Rogers
Clearly there are excesses these days and many of us are way too sensitive. Teasing is a form of affection and adds levity and enjoyment to a relationship. However we need to be alert to offences that are born out of oppression of others. Too often what appears to be minor and insignificant has deeper meaning for those who have experienced oppression. I guess the best thing we can do is check our hearts and ensure the motivation is honorable.

Agreed; some types of humor go to far or hit topics of sensitivity. But we also need to allow for satire and comedy to point out society’s quirks and hold up a mirror.
