So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God… Ephesians 2:19 esv

So I just finished a sermon series using various aspects of Star Trek as sermon illustrations, and would you believe I not even once used the concept of “aliens”?!?!
The word alien in this passage actually leans more toward meaning a sojourner or traveller from another place. So when Paul says to the church in Ephesus that they (and we) are no longer strangers or aliens, he is saying that we have come home.
He then goes on to say we are part of the household of the family, including those who have been sent by Christ (saints). It is also implies that we have been adopted into this beautifully diverse family.
Just like many families, there is a wide variety of members. There are those who are worker bees, and others who are comforters; those who are mature and those who are youthful; those who are homebodies and those who are more adventurous. You even have the family crazies like me!
But we all carry the family name, and our name identifies us. It reveals who we are and Whose we are. We are Christian.
So carry the name well!
