The Razor’s Edge
Over the last week, I have been rather busy with pastoral care issues. It seems like more this week than the previous months.
What strikes me in each event is the razor-thin edge where an event can break either way. A split-second decision by a preteen leads to a preschooler surviving a fire or a life tragically and forever altered by somebody else’s reckless behavior.
I witnessed the agony and the ecstasy of life in less than four days. One family loses everything they own in a fire, and another is one step away from being together on the same continent (maybe by Christmas!).
Yet in both events, and all the others I witnessed, 42 is in the mix! Glory be to the Triune God of Grace.
I arise today, through
God’s strength to pilot me,
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to save me
