…and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:
“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
Matthew 2:4-6
The passage cuts it off, but King Herod is the one who assembles the priest and scribes. Concerned only about his own perspective and preserving his power, he pulls together those who would know about the prophecies of the Messiah. It is a very human-centered approach to life from the puppet king of Judea.
In contrast, the Messiah comes into the world in a town known for sheep and uncultured sheep herders, concerned only with submitting himself for the salvation of humanity. This King will be a humble Shepherd for his people! A very God-centered approach to life from the Messiah King of the Universe!
Which way is your life oriented? Are you looking to preserve your perspective and power, or are you submitting yourself to the way of the Great Shepherd? Human-centered or God-centered?
