Hitchhiker’s bLOG – 2020.10.27

Omission and simplification help us to understand — but help us, in many cases, to understand the wrong thing; for our comprehension may be only of the abbreviator’s neatly formulated notions, not of the vast, ramifying reality from which these notions have been so arbitrarily abstracted.

Brave New World Revisited – Aldous Huxley (1958)

Was Aldous Huxley a prophet? Not in the sense of telling the future, but rather about speaking truth into his present…and beyond.

In our modern context, we consume volumes of condensed information prepared for us by news media, social media, political pundits, and the politicians themselves. We use Facebook, Twitter, Fox, CNN, Huffington Post, NewsMax, google, Yahoo News, etc. to help us process our world, and yet they are full of simplifications and omissions manipulated by the points of view of other people and organizations.

This makes us captive to

the abbreviator’s point of view!

If you do not believe me, listen to how people have been speaking to each other over the last eight months…or more. People speak in talking points about everything from politics to COVID to mask wearing to social unrest. They parrot headlines and information others have fed them, and many of you sound like political pundits from the so-called “news channels.” Some of you have been assimilated like the BORG!

My friends, resistance is NOT futile! It is your responsibility to dig deep. Don’t just read headlines or soundbites; that is what they are counting on. Look for unbiased news sources to figure out what you are looking at.

Even with what you read from me; don’t just take my word for it! What I write and say, while trying faithful to be the Triune God of Grace, is designed to stimulate you and me in our search in understanding and living out our lives searching for “42”.

Spend time prayerfully reading “the source” material. Study what HE is telling us when it comes to understanding and living out LIFE, the UNIVERSE, and EVERYTHING!

Something to Think About 42

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Deuteronomy 6:4-8
