Something to Think About – 2020.11.06

When you were little, did anybody ever play “52 Pick-up” with you?

In your excitement, you would exclaim “Yes!” because you thought someone actually wanted to play cards with you. Before you knew it the cards would be flicked at you until the entire deck was on the floor around you in a mess. Then the other person, usually someone older and meaner (usually a brother) would tell you to “pick em up.” Being that you were little, you obliged and spent the next several minutes picking up the cards, making sure they were all there, and trying to organize them to face the same way and maybe even sorted them into suits and numerical order.

Sooner or later, this game got old!

Today’s scripture contains the word “unite.” In Greek, the word is ἀνακεφαλαίομαι (anakephalaiomai). It is a verb that means to gather up, often around one organizing center that brings all the parts together to work in harmony.

As I sit here before dawn on this morning, I think about how Satan has played 52 Pick-up with the world. We are divided and disorganized, and a white hot mess all over the floor. People are angry, sad, frustrated, confused, manipulated, arrogant, self-centered, self-righteous, hurting, sick, dying, lonely……..

But I also hear Paul telling us that the Author of LIFE, the UNIVERSE, and EVERYTHING has a plan. It is mysterious, but it contains his will for us. It is none other than The ONE organizing principle that will gather us up and restore creation to himself in perfect harmony! My friends, I present that ONE…
