Something to Think About – 2020.12.18

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old…”

Luke 1:68-70

The scripture on the schedule for today from Bible Gateway is from a larger passage I am actually preaching on this coming Sunday.

Zechariah has been silenced for nine months because he doubted what the Angel Gabriel had said about his barren wife, Elizabeth, who would be pregnant in her old age. After writing that the baby’s name would be John, because he could not speak, his tongue is loosed to proclaim the Lord God.

This beginning of his proclamation is a blessing and recognition that God is acting on behalf of the people. This action is that he will be present with the people, rescue them, and bring forth the king of salvation as foretold in the ancient scriptures by the prophets.

Let us not forget that we are not the author’s of our salvation, nor can we do anything to achieve it. It is a free gift through the mercy of the Lord God as he pulls us toward him.

And this is something we all share!
