Something to Think About – 2021.09.25

“Am I a God at hand,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him?” declares the Lord. “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 23:23-24

Today’s verse is just 24, but I added 23 for context, as it is part of a declaration from YaHWeH. There are three questions.

Question #1: Am I not present in the here and now, or do you believe I am far away? The Lord declares his nearness to us even as we lament, and he calls out our idolatry and sin.

Question #2: Do you think that it is possible to hide from me? The Lord declares that he knows us better than we know ourselves, and nothing and nobody hides from him.

Question #3: Do I not fill the universe with my presence? The Lord declares that there is no place or time where YaHWeH is not present, so stop fooling ourselves.

So what should be our answer to these three questions?

Answer: Lord, thank you for being near to me even though I have sinned. I have been foolish in thinking I could hide this from you, for you know who I am better than I know myself. You are so familiar with the essence of who I am. Therefore, continue to be with me and guide me is all that I am. Amen!
