Godzilla remember speaker years ago talking about Apostles’ Creed. She proffered that Koine Greek had no punctuation, and it quite possible that word “suffered” could be verb that stand alone. Then it could read, “…born of the Virgin Mary, he suffered, under Pontius Pilate he was crucified…” Godzilla intrigued by such statement even if bad Greek grammar.
In Philippians Letter, Paul state Jesus “emptied himself” by becoming human. Paul say he humble himself in all human experience, including death. (See Philippians 2:1-11). This was belief of early church which imply that suffering began with Jesus’ birth!
After last 22 months (and counting) watching humans, Godzilla absolutely agree!
Greek word in Apostles’ Creed translated “suffered” is υποφέρω (upo-pher-o) which mean endure, tolerate, bear, put up with.
When Jesus born into world, he endure, tolerate, bear, and put up with humans. He deal with family, friends, neighbors, religious types, politicians, foreigners, and many more.
Now that true suffering…now that true LOVE!!!!
Godzilla believe we not deserve such Savior. But he chose to love even when we don’t deserve his love.
So don’t make promise to 42 that you do better this year, because he laugh at you knowing you blow the resolution within hours of making it!
