If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. John 15:10

The mistake many people make with this passage is thinking that this is how you earn his love. That’s not it at all. You can’t earn his love, for it is freely given.

The word translated “keep” (τηρήσητε) has a fullness in it, dwelling within and guarding it. And the word “commandments” is always summed up by Jesus with the two, love God and live neighbor. In other words, let Jesus’ love abide (set up residence in your heart).

By the way, the word “abide” (μενεῖτε) also has a strong meaning; to stay or remain in this condition.

What better instruction (commissioning) can you receive from or teacher and LORD?

Let my love dwell within you, and you will live a life of love!
