Teach me to do your will,
Psalm 143:10
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
Throughout scripture, we find that God interacts with people, which makes the Judeo-Christian mindset very different from the other ancient religions that preceded us. Before Abram (a.k.a. Abraham), people spoke at their gods, hoping for good crops, fertility, prosperity, etc. But beginning with Abram, YaHWeH initiates the conversation with the verb “Go.” There is no promise that it will be easy, nor does it provide a clear picture of where they are going.
By the time we reach the age of King David (approximately 11th century B.C.), there is an ongoing covenantal relationship that allows for a two-way conversation, yet there is still no promise of ease or clarity. In today’s scripture, the psalmist asks God to teach him the Divine Will, which implies that he is used to God interacting with humanity. Then the verb “lead” pops in, which reveals that God’s Spirit is actively engaged in this relationship and will provide a ground without obstacles.
This request does not imply that a life of faith has no difficulties; it means that when we walk with the Lord, we have a partner who takes us through thick or thin.
Have a day blessed by the ONE who walks with you always!

Something I have learned recently… in the world of concepts and things like math or technology, when we learn about these things, we understand and remember them for most, if not all our lives. 2+2=4. I’ll always remember that. But in the way of relationships, revelation, or the way of the spirit, it is hard for us to remember an insight 5 minutes ago, let’s alone 5 years or centuries ago. With God we are always learning and re-learning which is why we need to stay close to God forever.
