White Noise?

Recently, I purchased a white noise machine. Don’t let the name fool you; this little device, the size of a hacky sack, makes more than white noise. It also makes brown and pink noise (whatever those are) and contains two fan settings.

White noise is a variety or mixture of sound frequencies extending over a wide range. It is that noise you hear when you turn to a broadcast channel, and there is no signal; we call it “static.” It is a noise that is generated artificially through electronic means and is often used to drown out other noises. Brown, pink, and fan noises sound similar to white noise but have different tones, all similarly annoying!

But… My little hacky sack device also has other sounds. There is a bubbling brook with birds, bubbling water, nighttime crickets, a crackling fire, windy rain, and steady rain. My absolute favorite is the ocean waves, one a little more active than the other, which sounds like a gentle caress. You can find all these sounds in nature, and although recreated by a little green electronic device, they are comfortable because the CREATOR creates them.

At O’Dark-Thirty in the morning, I turn on my little green hacky sack as I become immersed in my devotional time, and it remains when I have coffee with Jesus. This sound (with help from the Great Spirit) transports me back to an Adirondack chair perched upon a rock looking east at pre-sunrise in Gloucester, MA. It’s just me, my Lord, a beautiful display of oranges, yellows, and off-whites, and a steaming hot cup of coffee. One of my favorite happy places!

Who needs white noise?

I’ve got 42! Or does 42 have me?!
