Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:12

David laments his sinful behavior after being confronted by Nathan about the white hot mess created by his over active libido. That libido led him to covet another’s wife, commit adultery with her, lie and plot to cover it up, kill a man, and take the woman as his own wife. In one fell swoop, David ticked off commandments five through ten; he broke covenant with God for sure.

The irony is David was super righteous and angry when he thought Nathan was speaking about somebody else. But once confronted by God’s prophet, the king laments. WHACK!!!

Yet we are blessed by the king’s repentance and pleading to God for his restoration and renewal. David promises to sing praises and teach of God’s ways so that others who have broken covenant will return to God for the joy of salvation.

A thousand years later, one of the descendants of that broken, restored, and joyfully singing king would hang on a cross outside the walls of his city embodying the once and for all final answer to David’s lament!!!

“Father, forgive then, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

Are you singing?!
