Reflections from Gloucester 2023

Part II – Standing Together

It was about 7:30 in the morning, and I was winding my way through the Gloucester neighborhood with the Lord on my way to the Eastern Point Lighthouse. I hear a commotion up ahead. What could be making such a racket? Then I see the source of the disturbance!

I spotted five wild turkeys in a driveway ahead of me, and they were on the move in some active formation. Then I saw why: A coyote was in their midst, tail between the legs. This coyote was looking for breakfast, and these birds would have none of it and were standing together, not aggressive but to protect the flock!

This image is one to ponder as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. The church must stand firm in this present darkness of societal chaos. We must put on the armor of God and stand arm and arm patiently and faithfully, defending against the flaming arrows of the assault. Not with aggression but with trust in God’s Holy Power. Otherwise, we will continue to allow the world to divide us, and we shall surely continue to lose souls from our numbers as they pick us off one at a time.

Divided we fall; united we stand!

Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11
