Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

I was shocked when I entered ministry two decades ago when I learned how much biblical illiteracy existed in a church. The Reformed (Calvinist) tradition, into which I have been called, is known for its focus on the sovereignty of God and the authority of scripture, so it made no sense that people were not familiar with fairly basic biblical knowledge.

If we call ourselves disciples, we are taking on the mantle of being lifelong learners of the one known as the Word. After all, Jesus instructs us to “…love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind…” Luke 10:27

Notice that “MIND” is in there; Jesus added this to the Shema. In fact, the word “mind” is used at least 130 times in the scriptures. So you have permission and invited to engage you mind in faith along with your emotions, spirituality, and physical resources. After all…

Your mind matters!
