Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

This theme shows up in other places in the scriptures and aligns with the “new commandment” given by Jesus as recorded by John the Evangelist:

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

John 13:34

Many years later, that old evangelist will pen these words as well:

We love because he first loved us.

1 John 4:19

I am seeing a trend. It sounds like the Lord is calling us to a life of love where we are to love one another, our neighbors, our enemies, people who don’t think like us, voters who don’t vote like us, humans who don’t look like us, religious people who do not share our faith, atheists…
