St. Patrick’s Day Edition

“For daily I expect to be murdered or betrayed or reduced to slavery if the occasion arises. But I fear nothing, because of the promises of Heaven; for I have cast myself into the hands of Almighty God, who reigns everywhere. As the prophet says: ‘Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you.’”

The Confessions of St. Patrick

In our unsettled times, we place way too much emphasis on worldly powers and worldly leaders. As a result, people are ready to explode at the simplest of things, walk around like zombies ignoring others, or disengage.

Look at the advice handed down to us by an unlikely bishop who lived in the 5th Century, whose day we celebrate with parades, shamrocks, and even pub crawls. Maybe reflecting on our faith in the Triune God of Grace is the best way to honor the man who called himself “unlikely.”
