Called to Serve!?
As I write this, I do not know where I will be when it is published. Why? Because HitchHiker has been called to JURY DUTY again!

At O’dark-thirty on Monday morning, and for the first time in many years, I actually have to report to the courthouse. In a few hours, I will be creating love-mischief amongst my fellow servers and bailiffs. Now if I get picked, it could be one or two days so we’re told. If the latter happens, I will have to reschedule my annual physical that I booked months ago because of how popular my doctor is! It also means I lose my day off, and possibly a day in the office. I have no idea what will happen. Can you feel the tension?

Because of this, I found my thoughts drifting back to a long time ago in a place far far away. On Monday morning, 2001.03.26, HitchHiker received notice from the Author of Life, the Universe, and Everything to serve, called to Christian ministry. At the time, I had no clue where “42” would take me (and my young family). I knew that it meant leaving behind a promising career, the house with the big pool, and any dreams we had. We would need to uproot, sell what we couldn’t fit into a Penske truck, and move to places where we would always be strangers. I had no idea what would happen. Can you feel the tension?

It’s been over twenty-three years since that NOTICE came, and I still have no clue what the Author of Life, the Universe, and Everything will do to me next. More adventures just over the horizon. It’s amazing that “J” still talks to me!
