Don’t mess with Mother Nature!

About a week ago. my phone rang with “Dreamer” by Supertramp; Sir Knight was calling. When I picked up, I heard my brother’s seriously questionable vocal skills proudly singing, “It’s gonna snow, ho, ho, right here in Dixie…”

If you don’t know the reference, you were likely abused as a child. It comes from “The Year without a Santa Claus” by Rankin & Bass, released in 1974.

This song is the spontaneous reaction of the Mayor of Southtown after he agrees to release an imprisoned reindeer, but only if young Iggy Thistlewhite and Jingle and Jangle the elves can make it snow for Christmas in his little town south of the Mason-Dixon Line. You see, it never snows in Southdown.

(See YouTube link at the bottom)

To give context, Sir Knight lives in South Carolina, and it was snowing. In fact, it would be quite the week as states like Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida would see three to six inches of snow, more in some spots. I heard from my sister, T.O., that there was over eight inches on Bourbon Street. This would be barely an inconvenience to us who dwell north of the MDL, but down south, it shuts things down.

This got me thinking about the plot of that iconic children’s Christmas favorite and how similar the behaviors of Heat Miser and Snow Miser are as compared to political leaders of fifty years later are. Tantrums, sibling rivalry, and nastiness. They even have an eerily familiar look!

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could simply call their Mothers who could force them to compromise instead of hurling lightning bolts and fire at each other while the rest of us struggle?

Or maybe it needs all of us to call out to the Creator of Life, the Universe, and Everything to ask him to straighten the boys and girls out!

LORD, would you mind doing us a solid and get these people to stop sniping at one another and focus on the common good all? Amen!
