O you who love the Lord, hate evil!He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Psalm 97:10

The Hebrew word translated as “evil” is רַע (ra’), a multi-faceted term used throughout the Old Testament. It often describes anything that is morally, ethically, or physically negative, and can be an action, thought, or condition that is contrary to God’s nature as described in his covenant.

Ra’ is opposite to what is asked of the faithful, holy, pious, and kind. And those are the one’s referred to as “his saints” in this verse. They are called to hate ra’.
