There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:1-2

The word “condemnation” (κατάκριμα) jumps out to me as it literally means a punishment handed out after sentencing (condemnation) for bad behavior.

What Paul is saying is that the behavior is still wrong, but your sentence is freedom because someone else has stepped in on your behalf.

It is not a license to go and commit that behavior again. What is says is that you might be free, but it wasn’t FREE!
