Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29

Godzilla and I had to fight over who would take this verse. Be thankful I won the fight as he was going to light it up!

The word that jumps out at me is the adjective describing “talk.” Translated as “corrupting,” I think the translators were being nice. The Greek word is σαπρός (sapros) and has a wide range of meanings including: rotten, putrid, over-ripe, corrupt, poor quality, or unfit. It is often used in describing produce and meats not fit for consumption.

Over the last decade (or more), I have heard many people who profess to be Christians spewing out plenty of sapros words that are not worth consuming. And yet there are plenty of others who chose to consume what the speakers are vomiting out, and then repeat to others.

Now that’s a Mouthful to Think About!

P.S. Aren’t you glad I did not turn Godzilla loose on this one?!?!
