Doppelgänger or

Space-time Traveler?

Since mid-December, I’ve been binge-watching LOST. I watched this series with Chewbacca when it aired, and I admit I was left unsatisfied with its conclusion. So I thought I would give it another chance, watching with a science fiction mindset. It’s incredible how much I missed or forgot!

The concept of space-time and time travel permeates the story, and it has me thinking about the possibilities. And it reminded me of a story from over thirty years ago. I know I’ve blogged about it in the distant past, or maybe I didn’t. You can decide.

Below is a picture of me from around the time the story takes place. Yes, it was one of those interim periods between facial hair. At the time, I worked for a medical device company in Connecticut and had a staff of very talented folks with a wide variety of gifts. One was an actor who did TV commercials and local theater. The staff went to see him play Felix Unger in a production of “The Odd Couple.”

The Playhouse was also an old puppet theater in Connecticut, and its walls were adorned with marionettes from various places and times. During the intermission, one of my staff was looking closely at a three marionettes, when all of a sudden her excited voice lofted through the room, “Get over here! You have to see this!”

We all went to see what was exciting her. Upon the wall in front of her was a three-foot Italian marionette from hundreds of years ago, of a Roman soldier, and we were all immediately freaked out.

Below is a picture of that marionette. Except for the mustache, the cheek structure, chin, nose, mouth, and eyes seemed to match the image above. Feel free to scroll up and down to make the comparison.

So it calls the question: Is this a likeness of my Roman doppelgänger from many years past, or was it me as a space-time traveler used as a model by its creator?

You decide!
