Every Day is a New Chapter!
Recently, my Ego turned more and more toward legacy. Then my Imagination began running wild, fantasizing about fame and fortune. Both Ego and Imagination were stopped in their tracks when Rationality asked, “What exactly is a legacy?” So off to the dictionary we marched, me, myself, and I, to research the definition of legacy.
LEGACY (noun)
Merriam-Webster’s definition of “legacy”
1: a gift by will especially of money or other personal property.
2: something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.
Ego read the definition and moaned, realizing that the years already lived likely outnumbered those ahead two to one. Ego soberly stated, “We are getting too old to make our mark on the world.”
Imagination saw this definition and sighed, and remembered, “We gave up fame and fortune the day we packed up everything that fit in a Penske truck and moved to Iowa for seminary, then to Illinois, on to Pennsylvania, and now New Jersey.”
Rationality commiserated with Ego and Imagination, “In six decades, we have not accumulated wealth, mansions, or a famous name to leave to our loved ones. Quite frankly, I doubt we will in the remaining years.”
SOUL strongly interrupted, “If but one person came to believe and follow in the footsteps of The Author of Life, the Universe, and Everything because they were inspired by our journey, passion, actions, words, and love, then we have left a legacy. Look at our kids, and see the faces of new believers we’ve baptized. We do have a legacy!
Friends, never forget that every day we live in Christ is a new chapter in His-Story, and that Story is the Greatest Story Ever told. That is our legacy, so go write a new chapter today!
