Let me introduce you to Francis. He has peacefully stood in our yards in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for 18 years. Now he dwells in the White Mountains. I’m glad I brought him with us.

Francis’ real name is Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, but most know him as Francis of Assisi. One of the many things he is known for the establishment of the first live Nativity scene for Christmas in 1223. Francis was declared a saint by Pope Gregory IX two years after his death in 1226.

We had nearly 8 inches of snow the other day, 24 days before the feast of the Nativity, and Francis was made a bishop (see the mitre) by the forces of nature. Either that or he has become a member of the Conehead fan club!

Regardless, this mystic poet and traveling preacher has inspired many Christian servants for over 900 years.

My favorite quote attributed to him is one that inspires me to this day.

It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.
