This bLOG originally published 2020.08.18. It is so simple and yet profound. Its wisdom is incredibly timely. It is also one of several bLOGs that go after the cultural divisions we struggled with on top of the pandemic!

The other day, Mrs. Flying Scotsman came into my office with a quote from some guy I did not recognize. I immediately grabbed my phone to look him up. Why? Because what he said was absolutely something our culture needs to hear right now, and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t about to bLOG about some anarchist or Nazi or serial killer or FILL IN THE BLANK.
I never allow myself to have an opinion on anything that I don’t know the other side’s argument better than they do.” Charlie Munger
Please don’t send me hate mail because you don’t like this guy!
Wouldn’t it be nice if we refrained from opining until we know all sides of an issue?
Wouldn’t it be nice if we sat and listened to our responses before we actually deliver them?
Wouldn’t it be nice if we honored people enough to allow them to share their opinion without initiating a search and destroy mission because we don’t agree?
Wouldn’t it be nice to get to know people whose experiences and worldviews were different from our own?
Wouldn’t it be nice if we just stopped commenting, and simply loved them instead?
Wouldn’t it be nice?
Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. Proverbs 17:27-28
