Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30
I know this is the section on a woman who fears the LORD, but I think we can generalize this verse by changing “woman” to “person” and “beauty” to “outward appearance.” Now, let’s parse this verse by looking at the Hebrew words it contains.
Charm is deceit or a con, and dressing up one’s appearance is as meaningless as vapor if the heart is not focused on the right place. What’s the adage, “Like putting lipstick on a pig?”
The “right place” is faith in 42. YaHWeH provides the grace and mercy that harmonizes the inside with the outside. A properly calibrated soul is genuine and attractive, translating outward into the world.
This is true and unfading beauty!
LORD,
Please help us be true and beautiful on the inside, properly focusing on you. Then your presence in us will erupt outward with love, passion, thoughtfulness, and service, allowing the world will see the Source of our hope! And when asked about this Source of hope, share it with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).
We pray in the name of our Creator, Rescuer, and Inspirer. Amen!
