“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
I went to bed numb last night. This morning, names and faces begin to appear.
I looked into the smiling eyes of a baby who had just turned ten years old, and now she’s dead. I wept even though I had never met her, but she’s my daughter.
I looked into the gentle face of a baby who saw his mother only an hour before at the school award ceremony, and now he’s dead. I wept for a boy I had never met, but he’s my son.
I looked into the passionate eyes of a fourth-grade teacher who provided knowledge for nearly two decades, and now she’s dead. I wept for a woman I had never met, but she is my kid sister.
Today, we weep yet again for the senseless killing of children and adults, all people made in the image of Triune God of Grace.
