I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life. Psalm 119:93
I love Psalm 119, an acrostic poem smack-dab in the middle of the Bible. Each section begins with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and today’s verse is one of eight in the “Lamedh” section; the letter “L.” If you go with a literal translation of this verse, it begins with an emphatic phrase, “Ever never I will forget!” Thus, ESV renders this “I will never forget.”
Next, we have to ask, “Forget what?” In this verse, it is YaHWeH’s “precepts,” which means the things appointed by God. Why? Because from them comes life in him. This is unadulterated praise for a living God!
There are other verses in the “Lamedh” section that have time stamps on them as well. You see forever, all generations, and on this day, and they are combined with words, precepts, appointments, laws, testimonies, and commandments from God. He must be timeless!
I invite you to spend some time in God’s timeless words, especially those in Psalm 119. There is plenty to work with as this poem offers 176 verses to savor!
Have a great weekend!
