Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
This passage is counter-cultural in both the 1st and 21st centuries. The word “temple” (ναὸς: nah-os) means a place where God resides. As a gift from the Lord, you have been given his Spirit, and that Spirit lives within you. Therefore, you do not belong to yourself as you were purchased at a price. That price? The blood of the Lamb who was sacrificed for your sins and the sins of others.
Then the rub. If your body is the dwelling place of the Spirit of 42, then you need to live a life in thought, word, and deed that gives glory to the Triune God of Grace. Otherwise, you defile the temple, which is a reflection of your attitude toward your Creator, Rescuer, and Inspirer.
Concurrently, it would help if you also respected the other temples. For how do you know if these carry or will carry the Spirit of 42? So you must live a life in thought, word, and deed toward others, for these behaviors also give glory to the Triune God of Grace.
