Lately, while walking the Monster Behind the Door (MBD), I noticed that someone walking their dog on Main Street is consistently choosing not to pick up after their furry companion; PEOPLE, IT’S THE LAW! It is obviously a big dog as its leavings are three times the size of any “tootsie roll” MBD has ever produced, and tragically more than one unfortunate soul, while walking at night, has failed to see these piles of disaster and have stepped in them, for these packages are often on the sidewalk.
Day after day, my annoyance increased, and eventually I got angry about these scofflaws who seemed to care only about themselves. Maybe they are lazy, don’t care, or are protesting because New Jersey took our plastic bags.
But then I stopped and realized that 2000 years ago, a fully human and fully divine being took all of our past, present, and future piles of excrement upon himself without any complaint; he did it willingly and with love.
So now, while I am out walking with MBD, I make sure to carry extra bags to pick up what others have left behind from their dog’s behind!
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:5-8
