For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Ephesians 6:12-13
In all the words in these verses, the three that stick out to me are “this present darkness.” Obviously, the church was going through something, and Paul is providing pastoral care and advice. Listen to Paul as he tells them to dress for action by wrapping the protection of God around them. Once they have done their best to build themselves up with this protective faith in God , the final orders are to stand firm together in this present darkness. Notice that this is a defensive posture, not an offensive action.
With all we have been through, the behaviors we are seeing from the halls of power, society, and things yet unseen, is our present darkness? Regardless, Paul’s advice is still relevant. Stand firm together with God’s love as your protection.
