The Lenten Season begins Wednesday. Every Monday during Lent, I will provide you with a Hebrew word from the Bible to focus on for the week.

This week’s focus word:

שׁוּב

Now you may notice the illustration above defines SHUV as “Repent.” This is perfectly legit, but that definition may be a word, like “sin” or “righteousness,” that may have fallen out of favor in our present context for a myriad of reasons. So here’s a way to make it more meaningful.

If a relationship with God is what you desire, then God is the focal point of your devotion and service. Let’s consider the LORD your ultimate destination. Jesus calls this, and himself, “The Way.” If you find yourself swerving or straying from the path to your destination, or, God forbid (pun completely intended), you are traveling in the opposite direction, it’s time to course correct. My GPS calls this, “Recalculating.”

The Lenten Season is a good time to reflect on your devotion toward and service for the Author of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Are you on Route 42?

If not, it’s time to

SHUV!

“Turn now, every one of you, from his evil way and evil deeds, and dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever.” Jeremiah 25:5 ESV

P.S. The Greek equivalent is μετάνοια (metanoia)
