For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. Psalm 149:4

When I read today’s verse from biblegateway.com, the word “humble” stands out. It speaks to the condition or type of the people God seeks, yet it is tricky because it can be translated several ways.

The Hebrew word is “ah-nawv“ (עָנָו) which has meanings of lowly, humble, meek, poor, and even afflicted. That is quite a lineup of meaning, yet is likely the word that Jesus uses in the Sermon on the Mount as the leadoff hitter, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt 5:3)

For they shall be made beautiful by God’s salvation!
