Something to Think About

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

I am currently reading The Great Omission by Dallas Willard, and it caught me off guard to find this passage as the Verse of the Day.

Why? Because Willard’s thesis is that we, in Western society, may be converts who think that the key is to make more converts, but many do not become or even know how to be and make “disciples.” We are stuck in the conversion stage.

In this passage, notice that Jesus is telling his disciples (the Greek and Hebrew nouns mean pupil or student) to go and make more students in all nations, teaching (discipling) them on all that He has commanded them. This is The Great Commission from the Lord.

Based on the precipitously falling numbers of Christians, especially in North America and Europe, it is clear we lack an understanding of The Great Commission; thus we have implemented The Great Omission.

Are you a student of the Master?

Are you teaching other students how to learn from the Master?

Disciples and Teachers, it is time to go back to school!
