Big Lizard sitting in Captain’s chair this week while HitchHiker takes “rest.” He think yard work and deck staining is resting.

Before HitchHiker start vacation, Godzilla have deep dive with HitchHiker about “42”. He say it inspired by Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; he big fan. Adams in-turn was big fan of Louis Carroll. Follow trail of breadcrumbs.

Carroll peppered “42” throughout writing. Example: final chapter of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, King of Hearts invoke “Rule Forty-two.” King want Alice to leave and appears to randomly make rule to eject all people 100 feet tall or larger from court. Alice 100 feet tall. Carroll also use only 42 illustrations in book. It also show up in The Hunting of the Snark; go look for self about number of boxes.

Douglas Adams claim he chose 42 at random to create nonsensical answer to ultimate question of life, universe, and everything. Ironically, nobody know ultimate question. But many think it not random. Go look for self.

Now look at HitchHiker. He discover answer (“42”) in life journey twenty-five plus years ago. He accept challenge to study Life, Universe, and Everything, much to consternation of family and friends. Years later, HitchHiker may not know exact question, but always searching. But more importantly, HitchHiker always trusting Answer!

Finally, two weeks ago, HitchHiker wear custom football jersey out to stores. It have number “42” on front and back, and name HITCHHIKER on back. Store employee stop HitchHiker and ask if he could take picture; he recognize it. Another store and another employee also stop HitchHiker and comment.
