Hebrews 1:3 esv
Sometimes people tell me that they can’t see God, so it keeps them from getting close to him. I think this is why the author of Hebrews starts the letter in this way. He wants to make God real and approachable to others, and reminds them how.
Today’s scripture says that Jesus is the “exact imprint” of God’s nature. The Greek word is χαρακτὴρ, pronounced “character”, which means the exact impression or engraving. In other words, Jesus bears the precise image of God’s essence, including his power!
So study the Gospels and the Epistles. Listen to the eyewitness accounts of how Jesus came into the world, taught, changed lives, sacrificed, and exercised authority. Watch him heal, grieve, show compassion, get frustrated, and even get angry. Look for the exact imprint of God in all he did, is doing, and will do.
But reading and studying is just a start. Engage with other followers of the Christ. Work and worship and love and pray together. Live a life together that reflects the image of him who calls you, and you will start to experience his incarnation as the Body of Christ.
You ask, “Can I see God? Can I know God?”
I say, “Yes, you can!”
