Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28-29
In the last few sections of Hebrews, the author moves into apocalyptic language, a genre designed to contrast the hearer’s current situation with 42’s cosmic reality. This dualistic view is a revelation of ultimate hope infused into this present darkness. Good words for the day after Thanksgiving and two days before Advent begins, 2021.
We need to be reminded that all that we deal with or obsess upon, the fears perpetuated by the pundits and manipulators, our obsession to control, and a lack of of faith and focus all come from a broken world that can and will be shaken and consumed by the One who provides us with the true reality.
The LORD is our Creator, Rescuer, and Inspiration. Our 42 is Life, the Universe, and Everything.
So let us cast our lot with His eternal and infinite reality instead of the flimsy falsehoods of a finite world that is perishable.
