Something to Think About – 2022.06.10

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:12-13

True confessions; the good folks at biblegateway.com only give you verse 13 (underlined) for today, but I can’t help but add verse 12 because it’s the first half of the sentence, and it is also way cool!

The word “forgiving” is the Greek word χαρίζομαι (charizomai). It’s root is the word χάρις (charis) which means grace and loving kindness. Paul calls us to offer grace and loving kindness toward others, just as Jesus demonstrates toward us (and them). Note: I think Charis would be a beautiful girl’s name!

Now look north to verse 12 to see why it is so cool. Your χάρις toward others must be jammed packed with genuine compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience!

Jesus says, “Do as I say, and as I do!“
